When you are starting a new business, the tech side of things can feel like learning a new language. You hear terms like "domain" and "hosting" thrown around constantly, but what do they actually mean?
Let’s skip the confusing tech talk and break down the difference using a simple metaphor (I LOVE a metaphor!).
The Domain
Think of your domain as your plot of land and its registered street address. It is the unique name where people can find you online, such as www.yourbusiness.com
You must own the plot of land (the domain) before you can use it for your email address or website.

The Website
This is the physical house itself.
It’s the walls, the interior design, the beautiful layout and the overall experience built on top of that land.

Website Hosting
This is the foundation and the underlying utilities.
It is the secure server space you rent where all the digital bricks, code and images live. Without it, the house can't stand.

Email Hosting
This is the postbox at your gate.
Powered by a separate grid (like Blacknight), it lets you send and receive professional emails even while your house is under construction.
Email Domain
This is the unique nameplate on your postbox.
You must own the plot of land (the domain) before creating your professional email address. eg. hello@yourbusiness.com
Ready to build your digital home?
Understanding these basics is the first step toward getting your business online. If you are ready to skip the confusion and build a premium website that works as hard as you do, I am here to help.
